Power Outages, School Closing After Storm Rips Through Gloucester

Following a storm that ripped through Gloucester Township Thursday night, there are several closings and lingering power outages.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — A storm that ripped through Gloucester Township Thursday night resulted in several closures and lingering power outages Friday morning.

Blackwood Elementary School is closed on Friday because it has no power, police said Friday morning.

The light at College Drive and Peter Cheeseman Road is temporarily out and officers are on location directing traffic. Drivers should expect delays and use caution in the area.

Erial-Blenheim Road is closed between Church Street and the Black Horse Pike due to downed trees and wires. It will be closed at least through morning rush hour.

Prospect Avenue is closed in Blackwood due to downed wires and trees.

There are still several small areas in Blackwood without electricity. Anyone who needs to charge any portable devices can use the Gloucester Township Court Room as a charging station.

Residents are reminded not to touch any downed wires.

Thursday night's storm resulted in damage throughout the region, and a tornado was confirmed in South Jersey, according to the National Weather Service. It was confirmed in Mullica Hill, Gloucester County. Read more here: Tornado Confirmed In NJ

A Tornado Warning had been in effect for parts of Camden County Thursday night, but expired at 9 p.m. There were also warnings in Ocean, Gloucester and Burlington counties.

Police released images of some of the destruction in the township Friday morning. Patch will update this story as more information becomes available.
