Thomas Belton Talk: Arsenic and Old Lakes: An Environmental Tale of Colonial Settlement in the Delaware Valley and the Toxic Legacy that Followed.
In June of 1983 an unlined wastewater lagoon at an arsenical pesticide manufacturing plant in New Jersey collapsed into the Maurice River transporting tons of arsenic downstream. Thomas Belton, environmental scientist and author of Protecting New Jersey’s Environment: From Cancer Alley to the New Garden State, will discuss the disaster, its investigation, clean-up efforts and the long term impact on the environmental safety of the Delaware Valley. Talk will be followed by a book signing.
