Haddon Township Police Officer Involved In Non-Fatal Shooting

The officer has been placed on administrative leave, and the incident is under investigation.

Haddon Township, NJ -- A Haddon Township Police officer was involved in a non-fatal shooting Saturday morning, Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo said.

The officer stopped a car on Route 130 north near Alabama Road at about 9:41 a.m.

While the officer attempted to identify the driver, the driver attempted to escape by driving away, and crashed into a parked car, police said.

The officer shot the driver, a man in his 30s, once in the lower extremity during a brief struggle that ensued, according to police.

The man was taken by ambulance to Cooper Medical Center, where he was treated and released, police said. He was arrested on an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

The officer was not injured. Police didn't say if the driver was armed, or why he was stopped. Neither the officer or the driver were identified.

The officer involved was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation by the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office. The investigation is being conducted in strict accordance with New Jersey Office of the Attorney General guidelines governing all investigations into use of deadly force by law enforcement.

Robin Robinson Robinson, told nj.com the parked car belonged to his 20-year-old son, Brennan. The impact of the accident sent the car up onto the lawn from the side of the road, where it was parked. The car was mangled, and there were deep grooves on the Robinsons' lawn.

Brennan Robinson told njpen.com his car was hit by a Ford pickup truck. Robinson said he saw the officer confront the driver, and told him to "get down." He said they were tussling. He then heard two shots, but said he didn't actually see the shooting.
