Haddon Township Schools To Offer In-Person, Remote Learning

Haddon Township is proposing options for families to send their kids back to school part-time or have them engage in full remote learning.

HADDON TOWNSHIP, NJ — The Haddon Township Public School District is proposing options for families to send their children back to school part-time or have their children engage in full remote learning when school resumes in the fall amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Under the hybrid portion of the plan, students in all grades will be split into two groups, with one group attending class in-person on Monday and Thursday, and the other attending in person on Tuesday and Friday.

On days in which students attend school, they will attend in the morning. They will go home at noon. Everyone will eat lunch at home, and everyone will complete the second half of the day at home via remote instruction.

On days in which they are in school in the morning, they will engage in independent study at home in the afternoon.

On days in which they are not in school at all, children will engage in remote learning directly with the teacher for the whole day. All students will engage in remote learning completely on Wednesdays.

Because Preschool and Kindergarten are already half day programs, they will continue to use their regular schedules.

Students and staff will be required to wear masks at all times, and social distancing protocols will be observed. Families must pre-screen their children before sending them to school, and the district will follow protocols for illness in school, including those with symptoms of fever, cough etc.

Each building will have a designated isolation room, and nurses will be available in each building at all times. Parents and visitors will be screened when they arrive at the building.

Each elementary building will have a nurse on duty during in-person learning. Each bus will have an aide present to ensure social distancing and that masks are worn.

The district will provide masks and personal protective equipment (PPE). Efforts to secure appropriate substitutes due to projected increase in needs will be ongoing. Each desk will have dividers, and there will be hand sanitizers and wipes in each building.

There will also be a 100 percent remote learning plan. Last week, Gov. Phil Murphy announced that all school districts will have the option to begin the school year with the 100 percent remote option, but the school district has not said if it would do that as of Tuesday morning.

Students who choose to attend school using the full remote option will have be expected to log in and participate in live sessions per their regular schedule. Assignments will be given and turned in daily.

Families will be given the option to go to the hybrid model throughout the year (at least at the end of each marking period). Students needing to shift to remote instruction for reasons related to the coronavirus may return to hybrid model as soon as they are cleared to return to school.

And of course, as the coronavirus pandemic evolves, schools may be forced to move to an all-remote learning environment as they did for the 2019-20 school year.
