Haddonfield Cross Country Logs Miles for Area Senior Citizens
Haddonfield Memorial HS boys cross country in midst of July Mileage Challenge to benefit Interfaith Caregivers.
The Haddonfield Memorial High School boys cross country team has launched a July Mileage Challenge to benefit the area Interfaith Caregivers. The defending state champions are seeking pledges for each training mile they run during the month, with a goal of hitting 1500 miles.
For some, the ongoing health crisis has brought about life or death situations. For all it has caused disruption in daily life. This is true for the runners, and they were looking for some sort of activity that would help give the team a common purpose after losing out on the experience of working together during the spring track season. But they also wanted something that would benefit those in the area who have had a much more difficult time. The Haddon area Interfaith Caregivers have helped seniors live independently for over forty years. This task has become even more important and difficult given the increased isolation and health risks brought on by the pandemic. The Caregivers themselves have launched a July #giveback campaign so the alliance between the team and the organization was a perfect fit.
You can find full information, track their progress and make a pledge at haddonfieldbulldogscrosscountry.com or simply email Assistant Coach Dave Stewart at dstewart@haddonfield.k12.nj.us with the subject line “July Mileage Challenge” and the amount you’d like to pledge per mile, anywhere from a penny a mile on up. Pledges can be accepted any time through the month of July, and donations will not be collected until the Challenge is over. The community has already responded very generously, and Head Coach Nick Baker's team members, led by Captains Caleb Clevenger and John Hurly look forward to making their summer miles count in an even more meaningful way in these challenging times. Feel free to cheer them on as they hit the roads this summer.
