Man Arrested In Fatal Shooting Outside South Jersey Church: Cops

Dezmenn Warren, 30, of Camden, was arrested and charged in the fatal shooting of Donte Brown that took place on Sept. 18.

A Camden man has been charged in a fatal shooting that took place outside a South Jersey church last week, authorities announced.

Dezmenn Warren, 30, of Camden, was arrested on Wednesday, Sept. 26, at the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office without incident, according to Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson.

He has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of 31-year-old Donte Brown, of Camden, according to authorities. A Camden County Police officer found Brown laying on the ground outside the Ferry United Methodist Church after being flagged down near the intersection of Ferry Avenue and Kossuth Street at about 10 a.m. on Sept. 18.

He was transported to Cooper University Hospital and was later pronounced deceased at about 12:52 p.m.

The shooting took place outside the Ferry Avenue United Methodist Church while food was being distributed, the Courier Post reports. No one else was hurt in the shooting. An elementary school and a library are also in the area.

Detectives said that during the ensuing investigation, they determined that Warren was in the area at the time, and that he had shot Brown. After he was arrested, Brown was transported to the Camden County Correctional Facility pending a pretrial detention hearing. Under Criminal Justice Reform rules, the court may order he be detained or released with conditions.
