Officer, Man Killed By Haddon Twp. Police ID'd By State Investigators
As police responded to a reported burglary in progress, an officer shot a man who had a knife, authorities said.
HADDON TOWNSHIP, NJ — Authorities have identified a Haddon Township officer and the man he fatally shot as the investigation into the incident continues.
Police killed Keith Edelin while responding to a burglary in progress just after 1 a.m. Nov. 3 in a Haddon Township apartment complex, authorities said.
Shortly after arriving, Luke Falkenberg and another Haddon Township police officer encountered Edelin in a stairwell of the complex on West Crystal Lake Avenue.

Edelin, 46, of Pennsauken, had a knife, according to the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General (OAG), which is investigating the incident.
During an interaction in the stairwell, Falkenberg shot Edelin with his service weapon, authorities said. Officers rendered aid before emergency personnel brought Edelin to Cooper University Hospital in Camden.

About an hour later, Edelin was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Details on the interaction before the shooting have not yet been released.
No one else was injured. A knife was recovered from the scene, the OAG said.
Per state law, the OAG must investigate all deaths that occur during encounters with law enforcement. A grand jury will review the findings and determined whether any officers should be indicted.
