5 Things To Know About The Teterboro Airplane Crash

Two crew members were killed when a Learjet 35 crashed in Carlstadt a quarter of a mile from Teterboro Airport Monday afternoon.

TETERBORO, NJ — Here is what we know so far regarding the plane crash near Teterboro Airport Monday afternoon.

The Plane

The Learjet 35A took off from Philadelphia International Airport and crashed in an industrial area of Carlstadt at about 3:30 p.m. According to NJ.com, the plane was built in 1981. It was registered to A&C big Sky Aviation in Billings, Montana, CBS2 reported.

The Crash

According to witnesses, the plane was flying upside down before it crashed and police said the plane appeared to be "listing" prior to it hitting the ground.

The plane appeared to explode into a fireball when it crashed.


The Crew

The Bergen County Medical Examiner's Office is working to identify the two victims. Their deaths were the only reported injuries as a result of the crash, police said.

The Investigation

Investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were at the scene Monday and again Tuesday looking into the crash. Authorities said the flight recorder from the plane will be examined as part of the investigation.

Other Damage

Three buildings, including the Carlstadt Department of Public Works building, were damaged as a result of the crash. DPW workers left for the day just a few minutes before the crash. Two other buildings also suffered fire damage and 13 nearby vehicles were damaged or destroyed, authorities said.
