2 Charged With Package Theft In Hillsborough
Hillsborough Police Chief McMahon warns residents to be vigilant as mail thefts have increased over recent weeks.
HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Two people were arrested after Hillsborough Police found they had multiple pieces of mail that did not belong to them.
On March 20 at around 11:18 a.m., the Hillsborough Township Police Department got a complaint of a suspicious vehicle in the area of Tally Ho Trail.
Officers found the vehicle with a fake Georgia temporary registration and conducted a traffic stop.

A search of the vehicle found a package containing a credit card issued to a victim on Tally Ho Trail, said Hillsborough Police Lt. Thomas McLain.
Also in the vehicle were various pieces of mail addressed to victims from multiple jurisdictions along with lists of personal identifying information belonging to numerous individuals, said McLain.

The victims of this crime have all been notified.
The occupants of the vehicle, Clifton Souna, 36, and Kenneth McMillian, 31, both of Brooklyn, New York, were arrested, taken to the Somerset County Jail, and were lodged pending a detention hearing in this matter.
Souna was charged with third-degree theft of a package, third-degree conspiracy to commit package theft, fourth-degree credit card theft, fourth-degree conspiracy to commit credit card theft, fourth-degree possession of fraudulent Government documents, and fourth-degree trafficking of personal identifying information.
McMillian was charged with third-degree theft of a package, third-degree conspiracy to commit package theft, fourth-degree credit card theft, and fourth-degree conspiracy to commit credit card theft.
Hillsborough Police Chief Mike McMahon would like to take this time to remind residents to be aware of the type of mail they place in their mailbox and to retrieve their incoming mail in a timely manner.
"Mail thefts have increased over recent weeks. Using your mail actors are able to facilitate crimes such as identity theft, check fraud, and credit card fraud. If possible, when mailing a check or other valuable items it would be best to utilize the post office drop box located at the post office," said McMahon.
Residents are urged to be vigilant in reporting any suspicious activity to the Hillsborough Township Police as soon as possible.
This incident remains under investigation by the Hillsborough Township Police Department. Anyone with any information regarding this investigation is asked to call 908-369-4323.
