Falcon Road Widening Project Continues To Move Forward 18 Years Later
The developer of a housing project off Falcon Road has been slowly buying frontage on residents' properties in order to be able to widen it.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — A plan to widen Falcon Road continues to move forward 18 years later, as another sliver of land along the roadway was recently purchased.
The Hillsborough Township Committee approved an ordinance at its Tuesday meeting accepting a developer's purchase of a .09-acre piece of property from a homeowner along Falcon Road at Block 141, Lot 15.
This is part of an agreement the township struck with the Premier Development back on April 1, 2004.

The agreement allowed the construction of up to 698 residential units on about 190 acres of land off of Falcon Road (known as Gateway at Royce Brook). And in return, the developer was required to widen and improve Falcon Road.
"The developer was required to widen Falcon Road and the widening of Falcon Road does require the developer to acquire certain easement rights from various homeowners along Falcon Road," said Hillsborough Township Attorney Bill Willard at the meeting. "As you can see we are talking about slivers of land. In this particular case, we are talking about .09 acres of land just a sliver of land on the frontage. The developer has acquired that from the homeowner."

Throughout the years, Premier has been slowly purchasing a sliver of frontage from each homeowner along the roadway to be able to complete the widening project.
Even after this recent purchase, the developer still has a few portions of land that need to be acquired, Township Clerk Pamela Borek told Patch.
"Once all is acquired and approved by the township, we can get to the business of widening Falcon Road as was contemplated by all the way back in 2003," said Willard.
This housing project along Falcon Road was part of an affordable housing agreement back in the late 1990s/early 2000s, said Committeeman Douglas Tomson.
