Hillsborough Expands Police Force To 77 Members
The Hillsborough Township Committee voted unanimously to expand the number of Captains, Lieutenants, and Patrolmen on the force.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Hillsborough is expanding its police force to 77 members to prepare for the continued growth of the township, said officials.
"We have done a great job of ensuring our police department is properly staffed and this goes along with that. To ensure that everyone has the correct amount of supervisors and patrolmen necessary to make sure our guys are continuously trained at the highest levels and serving our communities as best as possible," said Committeeman Doug Tomson at the Oct. 24 meeting.
The Township Committee unanimously passed an ordinance increasing the amount of police department membership.

The new breakdown of the department will be:
- Police Chief: 1
- Captain: expands to 2
- Lieutenant: expands to 5
- Sergeant: 8
- Corporal: as defined under the collective bargaining agreement between PBA Local 205 and the Township of Hillsborough.
- Patrolman: expands to 55
- Civilian personnel assigned to the Police Department in the amount necessary shall be determined by the Township Committee or designee.
"We have a safe town and we intend to keep it that way. This puts us in a great position in the long term, so this is a great thing," said Deputy Mayor Robert Britting.
