Hillsborough Honors Frank DelCore's 15 Years Of Service To Township

Tuesday marked Deputy Mayor Frank DelCore's last night serving on the dais. He was honored with a proclamation, pens, and a bobblehead.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — After serving for 15 years and being elected for five terms on the township committee, Frank DelCore served his last meeting up on the dais on Tuesday.

Deputy Mayor DelCore announced in March that he would not seek re-election on the Hillsborough Township Committee in 2022. His last day serving is Dec. 31.

"I find it hard to believe I spent 15 years up here on this dais. It's been one of my great honors of my life to serve up here for 15 years as your township committeeman, deputy mayor, and five times a mayor," said DelCore on Tuesday.

DelCore was first elected to the Township Committee on Nov. 6, 2007, and has served Hillsborough for 15 years. He served as Mayor in 2009, 2010, 2013, 2016, and 2019 and as Deputy Mayor in 2008, 2021, and 2022.

"I want to give a heartfelt thank you to the citizens of Hillsborough for voting for me five times. I sincerely hope I've rewarded your faith in me these past 15 years. I'm really proud of the work my colleagues and I have done on behalf of the residents of Hillsborough," said DelCore.

Over his tenure, DelCore served as a "fiscal watchdog" to ensure that the township’s taxpayer dollars were spent efficiently. He also has been part of many accomplishments in town, including Hillsborough being named "one of the Best Places to Live in America” multiple times, completion of the Route 206 Bypass, acquisition of the GSA Depot and development of Mountainview Park and removal of federal government’s mercury stockpile from Hillsborough.

"Thank you all for letting me do this for the last few years. It's been a great honor to serve this community. But I leave here knowing it is time for me to go and I also leave knowing the town is in capable hands because of all the people sitting up here," said DelCore.

The Township Committee honored DelCore and his service with a proclamation, pens and a fun bobblehead.

"Hillsborough has been incredibly lucky to have you serving us for the last 15 years," said Committeeman Doug Tomson. "I can easily say you have been my mentor since I joined 11 years ago."

"Frank you are the perfect example of what good looks like in this position. I hope to aspire to do as well as you did over the years. Thank you for your guidance," said Committeeman Robert Britting.

Mayor Shawn Lipani noted that he first worked with DelCore on the planning board more than 10 years ago.

"Frank was always honest and truthful to the public and that's all you can ask for. You've never been other than that and that's what I learned. You rip the bandaid off once and dont have to apologize after that. Sometimes the truth hurts," said Lipani.

DelCore has lived in Hillsborough for 21 years with his wife Renee and his two daughters Rebecca and Kristin. DelCore has acted as liaison throughout the years to the Capital Planning Committee, Recreation, Police, Rescue Squad, Emergency Management, Economic and Business Development Commission, Municipal Alliance, Historic Preservation, Planning Board, Sign Review Committee, and the Sustainable Hillsborough Commission.

DelCore received a standing ovation from the audience at the packed Township Committee meeting.
