Taking a look at the candidates, there are no incumbents running in this year's school board election.
Albanese, 46, is running for school board "to enhance the transparency between the administration, Board of Education, teachers and taxpayers of the community. I would also like to let not only the students but the teachers have a voice and be heard. I will also make it my duty to have the parents be heard no matter what their issue is good or bad. I would also like to review policies and procedures to make sure they are being followed or if the policies need to be updated or changed. I know this is a thankless job but I am willing to listen, act and guide those who need it. I also think taking away programs from children to make them all equal is detrimental to the development of children and young adults." Laning-Beder, 45, was "inspired to seek a seat on the Hillsborough Township Board of Education to advocate for improved mental health services for students, particularly in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. I hope to use my background in the classroom, my training as an educator, and my experience as a parent to help improve our schools and advocate for new mental health resources to support our students, faculty, and staff as they grapple with the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond." Golas, 46, says he is running for election "because I want to be a 100 percent transparent voice for the people of Hillsborough." Read Golas' full profile here: Krzysztof 'Chris' Golas: Hillsborough School Board Candidate
Jackson is running for school board because she believes "it's important to have diverse and fair representation of community stakeholders on the Board. Parents can offer a valuable perspective on the educational experiences of their children, nurturing their children to help them grow into healthy and successful adults, and the economic challenges of funding the best possible district resources for their children." Gaber-Baylis says she has been following the Hillsborough's Board of Education for about a decade and is "passionate about providing a superior education for our students as well as favorable working conditions for them, teachers, and staff. I have enjoyed trying to increase communication — keeping the public informed of BOE meetings and notable changes and events. Finally, the three incumbents who could have run this year decided to not run again, the original fifth candidate removed her name from the race, and I feel my background and overall knowledge would be beneficial to the district." Gamse said he is running for school board because "as a parent of two school-age children, having a well-run and successful school system is an immediate concern to me. When we moved to New Jersey from Tennessee just before our older child started kindergarten, we were very happy that our children would be in a state with top-rated schools. In Nashville, we had seen what could happen in a school system that was poorly supported, and we don't want that to happen here. By running for the school board, I can have a role in keeping Hillsborough schools excellent." Read Gamse' full profile here: Joshua Gamse: Hillsborough School Board Write-In Candidate
