Lockdown At Daycare After Man Trespasses In Somerset County: Police

Several nearby Township schools also went into a shelter-in-place out of abundance of caution.

FRANKLIN, NJ — A private daycare locked down and several Township schools went into a shelter-in-place after a man trespassed at the private facility in Franklin on Tuesday.

At around 10:31 a.m. Franklin Township Police Officers went to the daycare on Franklin Boulevard after an unknown man entered the building, said Franklin Township Public Safety Director Lloyd Fredericks.

Officers quickly determined the man left the building before they arrived.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Franklin Township School officials implemented shelter-secure procedures at several nearby schools.

Detectives were able to identify the person involved and determined that no threat to the public exists, said Fredericks.

Fredericks commended "the rapid and coordinated response of daycare staff who immediately initiated a lockdown and contacted 911, Franklin Township officers and detectives who responded and investigated the incident, and Board of Education administrators who coordinated with the FTPD to secure area schools. Their actions and communication ensured the safety of students and staff."
