Missing Person Found Dead At Sourland Mountain Preserve In Hillsborough

Authorities and police K-9 searched the woods on Friday for the 26-year-old person who reportedly died by suicide, said police.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — A missing 26-year-old was found dead by suicide at the Sourland Mountain Preserve on Friday, said Hillsborough Police.

On June 7 at 3:05 p.m., Somerset County Dispatch received a notification from Princeton
Police Department saying they had a missing person in their jurisdiction whose cell phone was
pinging to the Sourland Mountain Preserve, said Hillsborough Police Sgt. Philip Wolff.

Hillsborough Police was given a license plate for the missing person's vehicle which was found empty and parked in the parking lot of the Sourland Mountain Preserve.

Princeton Police Department said that the missing person was potentially armed with a firearm and emotionally distraught.

The missing person’s vehicle was seen entering the park on June 6 at 2:37 p.m.

Somerset County K-9 as well as Officers and Detectives from Hillsborough Police Department conducted a search for the missing person, who was unfortunately found dead in the wooded preserve, said Wolff.

The NJ State Medical Examiner responded and although this incident remains under investigation, the death is not deemed to be suspicious.

Hillsborough Chief Michael McMahon said there was never any threat to the public, however, the Sourland Mountain Preserve was closed while a search was conducted.
