New Superintendent Expected To Be Named Soon For Hillsborough Schools

Hillsborough Board of Education received 58 applications from 11 states to fill the open Superintendent position.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — A new school superintendent is expected to be named soon in Hillsborough.

Hillsborough Board of Education President Paul Marini said he was pleased that the search was "moving forward on the scheduled timeframe" at the Sept. 19 meeting.

A total of 58 people from 11 different states and with various education experiences applied for the position, said Marini.

The applicants were narrowed down to six. Those six applicants were invited back for interviews.

The pool was narrowed down further to three candidates, who were invited back for a second round of interviews.

"We will announce a successor in a month if all goes well and will keep the public informed," said Marini.

The position become open in May when Acting Superintendent after Dr. Lisa Antunes resigned after being on a paid leave of absence for the past four months. Read More: Hillsborough Superintendent Resigns, School Finances Probe Continues

Antunes abruptly announced her leave of absence on Dec. 22, 2021. This was the same time the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office and the Hillsborough Police began investigating the school district's finances. The police investigation into the school's finances is ongoing.

Dr. Kim Felte had been serving as Acting Superintendent since Antunes' departure until Aug. 22 when Dr. Daniel Fishbein was hired by the Board at the Aug. 22 meeting with a salary of $227,500.
