Political Signs Stolen In Hillsborough, Police Search For Suspects
Police said the theft of the signs "will be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ —Police said a number of political signs have been reported stolen in Hillsborough Township as Election Day approaches, and officials are vowing to thoroughly investigate the thefts and prosecute whoever is responsible.
A press release Thursday did not specify which candidate the signs were for. In the release, Hillsborough PD officials reminded residents that campaign signs are considered personal property. Stealing one can result in a fine and jail time, as it will generally be considered a disorderly person's offense.
"If posted on private property, only the property owner or those authorized by the property owner may remove a campaign sign," police said Thursday. "If the sign is posted on public property, only the state or township maintenance department, or law enforcement personnel in addition to the sign owner or representative may remove the campaign sign."
