Rise In Home Burglaries In Hillsborough, Police Warn
Most of the burglaries happened in the early evening hours when it began to get dark, said police.
HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Police are warning residents about a rise in home burglaries in Hillsborough over the past month.
"The residences appear to have been targeted due to indicators that the residents were away, such as no lights on, no vehicles in the driveway and no signs of activity. The targeted homes did not have surveillance systems in place or they were inoperable," said Hillsborough Police Sgt. Jack Howard.
Burglaries occurred at the following unoccupied homes in Hillsborough: Oxford Place, Sturwood Drive, Turhune Lane, Fisher Drive, French Drive.

Valuable items stolen in the burglaries included jewelry and cash, said Howard.

Residents are asked to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons or vehicles to the Hillsborough Township Police Department.
Additionally, residents are asked to take precautions to minimize the chance of being victimized. Precautionary measures include locking all doors and windows, notifying neighbors if you will be away for an extended period of time, and securing all valuables.
