Dump Truck Crashes While Trying To Avoid Deer, Snarls Route 206 For Hours

Route 206 was closed for 8 hours on Tuesday following the crash and fuel spill in Hillsborough.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — A dump truck trying to avoid a deer crashed on Route 206 on Tuesday causing the highway to shut down for eight hours.

On Nov. 14 at 3:08 a.m., the Hillsborough Township Police Department went to a motor vehicle crash at Route 206 and Park Avenue where officers found the driver was uninjured.

A preliminary investigation found the driver was operating an RSK dump truck southbound on Route 206. The truck hit the center median while trying to avoid a deer that had entered the roadway, said Lt. Scott W. Mc Carthy.

The dump truck then crossed the lane toward the southbound shoulder hitting the curb, guardrail, and utility pole in front of 156 Rt. 206.

The dump truck also began to leak diesel fuel, which was contained and cleaned up by Somerset County Haz Mat.

A portion of Route 206 was closed for 8 hours while the roadway was cleaned, and the crash
was being investigated.
