HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — The first baby bald eagle of the season hatched at Duke Farms in Hillsborough and now locals are tuning into the live video to watch as the other two chicks are expected to hatch in the coming days. (See the video below)

The first egg hatched on Friday at 6:44 a.m. and the other two eggs could hatch at any moment.

"Over the next day we should see the second egg hatch. Then a day or two after the third one should hatch," said Nora DiChiara, director of programs and strategic planning at Dukes Farms.

All three eggs were laid in late January and mark the first of 2021 to be born at the nature preserve at 1112 Dukes Pkwy W in Hillsborough.

Duke Farms offers bird enthusiasts a way to catch a glimpse of all of the new chicks and eagle parents live, 24 hours a day at dukefarms.org/eaglecam.

DiChiara said tons of people are tuning in to watch as the eggs hatch and even teachers are taking advantage and having their students watch as part of lesson plans offered by Duke Farms.

"We are really thrilled that during these times, the nest continues to bring joy and inspiration to homes and classrooms. It fills our hearts to see interest and engagement with these amazing creatures as they tend to their young," said DiChiara.

Duke Farms offers more than 240 digital resources to aid teachers with remote learning that span a variety of topics from bald eagles to nature.

The lesson plans use the camera as a place-based learning tool that can be used by in-person, remote, and non-formal educators. For more information click here.
