HOBOKEN, NJ — Police say that a drive-by shooting in Hoboken on July 5 was intended to target an Elizabeth man, and now a teen has been charged with attempted murder.
Hoboken police announced Thursday that on Wednesday evening, they arrested Edwin Hernandez, 18, from Jersey City "for his alleged involvement in a drive by shooting" in southwestern Hoboken.
When police searched Hernandez's Jersey City residence, they say, they also found drugs and arrested another man there on several drug charges.

"A single shot rang out from the vehicle at another person," police said in a statement Thursday. "The bullet missed a 26-year-old male from Elizabeth, believed to be the intended target. The bullet went through a storefront window and barely missed an employee."
As police investigated, lead detectives Michael Miranda and Christine Collins secured an arrest warrant for Hernandez.
Hoboken Police Detectives Sgt. Anthony Russo, John Quinones, and Bret Globke, working with the Hudson County SWAT Team, arrested Hernandez Wednesday at his Jersey City Heights apartment on Central Avenue.
Police also searched his apartment, they say. During the search, they say, they found 22 small clear plastic bags of suspected crack/cocaine and a clear plastic bag containing three larger rocks of suspected crack/cocaine.
Police say the narcotics were in the possession of another occupant at the residence, identified by police as Leonardo Mora, 35, from Jersey City.
Edwin Hernandez was charged with criminal attempt murder, aggravated assault, possession of weapons for unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of weapons. Hernandez was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
Mora was charged on a warrant with possession with intent to distribute controlled dangerous substance crack/cocaine, possession with intent to distribute controlled dangerous substance crack/cocaine within 500 feet of public park, possession with intent to distribute crack/cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school zone, possession of crack/cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Mora was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, the Hudson County Regional SWAT Team, and the Jersey City Police Department were involved in the arrest.
