Arrest Made In Fatal Hoboken Shooting

The 22-year-old suspect, from Willingboro in South Jersey, has been charged with murder.

HOBOKEN, NJ — A 22-year-old Willingboro man was charged with murder on Thursday evening in connection with the shooting death of a 26-year-old man in a Hoboken apartment on Aug. 7.

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said that her office's Homicide Unit arrested Tahjae McDougald, 22, of Willingboro, at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

McDougald has been charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon. The arrest was made at the county Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City, when McDougald turned himself in with his attorney.

The Hoboken police responded on Aug. 7, just after 10:30 p.m., to an apartment at 300 Grand St. on a report of deceased male.

The victim, 26-year-old Marquise Davis of Willingboro, was found with apparent gunshot wounds to his upper body. The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be gunshot wounds to the abdomen and the manner of death to be homicide.

Police Chief Kenneth Ferrante said that the unit was being rented as a short-term rental, and the police were able to find the listing online.

Before this incident, Hoboken had gone several years without a homicide, the last in 2017.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit, the Hoboken Police Department, the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, the Willingboro Police Department, the Pemberton Police Department, the Westampton Police Department, and the Philadelphia Police Department for the investigation and arrest.

The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven
guilty.
