Hoboken Nurses Reject Contract Offer From CarePoint Health

About 400 Hoboken nursing professionals say their offered contract has unacceptable "patient care issues."

The nurses at Hoboken University Medical Center have made their choice.

On Oct. 29, around 400 nurses at the medical center – represented by JNESO District Council 1 – “overwhelmingly” voted to reject a final contract offer from CarePoint Health, according to the labor union’s website.

The nursing professionals considered the hospital’s offer, but did not feel that it met their needs, particularly around patient care issues and their own health care options, according to a union statement.

“The union was disappointed that after months of negotiating, the hospital’s terms were not acceptable for our members and our members’ families,” stated Executive Director Doug Placa, JNESO District Council 1. “This contract asked too much from our members, particularly on issues surrounding patient care.”

A federal mediator has recommended the two sides get back to the bargaining table to resolve their issues, union officials told NJ.com.
