HOBOKEN, NJ — "The Kill Room," which was partly shot at an art gallery in Hoboken, has been picked up for a distributor after a bidding war at the Cannes Film Festival, and will be released this coming fall, Variety reported exclusively on Thursday.

The film will be released in North America by indie film company Shout Factory.

The movie, directed by Lyndhurst native Nicol Paone, has been described as both a thriller and a comedy: "A hit man, his boss, an art dealer and a money-laundering scheme that accidentally turns the assassin into an overnight avant-garde sensation, one that forces her to play the art world against the underworld."

More Givebacks For Hoboken

A number of movies have shot at that site post-pandemic.

However, Hoboken has not been getting the fees and givebacks that Jersey City has been getting from film companies. Recently, a city spokeswoman said that the City Council will consider asking for more contributions.

In fact, last month, "It Ends With Us" closed off street parking for several days even while they weren't filming, potentially forcing parkers to clog other areas.

A story this week in NJ.com noted that Jersey City gets a $1,500 per day fee for major films shot in that city. "It Ends With Us" was being produced by Justin Baldoni's Wayfarer Entertainment along with Sony, but the WGA strike shut down production last month.
