Man Tells Of Witnessing Crash That Killed Hudson County Motorcyclist
Hudson County motorcyclist Josh Huayamave was found far from where a car hit him. A witness gave insight into the crash and calling 911.
HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — On the night of Friday May 5, Joshua Huayamave, 23, a dogwalker in North Bergen, was hit by a vehicle while he was riding his motorcycle. While police found the motorcycle in the road near Granton and Liberty avenues, Huayamave's body was located several blocks away from the bike.
How did that happen?
Prosecutors sent out a press release that weekend saying they were searching for the driver in the alleged hit-and-run, but didn't explain why the victim was found so far from his motorcycle.

A GoFundMe has since been set up for Huayamave ("Our Pet Community Lost A Real One") and has raised $19,000 for his family. And a Jersey City man was arrested on Tuesday, May 9 in connection with the crash.
Meanwhile, one man who said he witnessed the crash gave insight into what happened.

He said that he was heading to put seeds on his mother's grave when he witnessed the accident.
"Don't Illegally Pass Bikes," he wrote as the moral of his lengthy Facebook post on May 9.
He also said that when he called 911 to report the crash, he reached a Jersey City 911 operator — and was put on hold for two minutes.
The man wrote on Facebook:
[Warning: Tragedy Story; Don't Illegally Pass Bikes]
Narrator: A fresh new night starts with phone call and an hour drive ... As he reaches the first intersection something causes his instincts to kick in with a cold wave of terror; a dark sedan appears out of nowhere on the wrong side of the road, going very fast. There is no time to stop, and both car drivers know it, so he veers to the right and the dark sedan cuts hard to the other right, but it collides with a red motorcycle and it collides hard. The dark sedan now fills the single downward lane and it's all behind him as he pulls into an illegal parking spot next to a fire hydrant.
In the side-view mirror the sedan has spun around and is driving in the tight zigzags of a failed K-turn, desperately attempting to flee the scene. He opens his door and jumps down from the van, spinning around, seeing a crowd of three Hispanic men and an older man with glasses who are shouting.
Self: GET THE LICENSE PLATE! SOMEBODY GET HIS LICENSE PLATE BEFORE HE GETS AWAY!!!
Older Man: Huh?!
SELF: GET HIS PLATE! DAMNIT, it's too late. He's fleeing! DID ANY OF YOU GET HIS LICENSE PLATE? COME ON!!!!!!!!!!
Narrator: The dark sedan is now so far away it can only be assumed that it continued onto Tonnelle Boulevard, Northbound and in a dangerous rush. He jogs thirty or so feet back down toward the intersection, crossing to the place a candy-apple red motorbike straddles the curb near a guardrail, three or four car lengths from where it collided with the sedan, and whoever rode this bike missing.
Self: Where is the biker? I'm calling 911. Does anyone have the address here?
Man: WHAT IS THE ADDRESS HERE?! (to the other two men his age)
Men: (running in and down stairs in front of each apartment, the men ring bells and ask for addresses)
911: (rings for two minutes) Hi, what's your emergency?
Self: A guy on a motorcycle just had a hit and run with a car on Granton Avenue in North Bergen...
911: SIR, let me stop you. This is not North Bergen. This is Jersey City. Let me transfer you.
Self: Ok
Woman 1: He just hit him. He was behind him and he did not want to wait so he [passed him illegally] and then he crashed into him!
Self: We need to find the guy who was on the bike. EVERYONE SPREAD OUT AND LOOK IN THE BUSHES, ON THE ROCKS AT THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. LOOK IN THE WEEDS TO FIND THIS GUY.
Man: I'm going to call the police.
Self: I'm already on the phone with 911. They had me on hold two minutes!
Man: (ignores this and keeps dialing 911)
Older Man: I'll look over here. (crosses the road)
911: Hello?
Self: Is this North Bergen?
911: Yes. What's your emergency?
Self: A dark sedan was driving down Granton Ave and hit a biker. The biker's body is missing but the bike is here on the side of the road, all broken up. Send an ambulance.
911: We have that already and we're sending someone. Stay there and wait....
Rest in peace Josh Huayamave. My heart goes out to the family, friends, and dogs.
