Manslaughter Charge After Man Dies Of Injuries From Jersey City Assault
A Union City man has been charged with manslaughter after a Bayonne man died of injuries sustained in Jersey City assault, officials said.
JERSEY CITY, NJ — A Union City man has been charged with manslaughter after a Bayonne man died of injuries suffered on a Jersey City street earlier this month, the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office said Thursday.
The Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department have charged Robert Stevens, 40, of Union City with manslaughter, aggravated assault, and endangering an injured victim.
Prosecutors said that at approximately 10:20 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2022, Jersey City police responded to a call for a man who had been assaulted on Bergen Avenue between Myrtle and Bostwick avenues.

They found an unresponsive man, later identified as Anthony Passero, 51, of Bayonne, on the ground.
He was brought to Jersey City Medical Center.

He died of his injuries days later, on Saturday, Aug. 6, at approximately 12:40 a.m., prosecutors said.
The Regional Medical Examiner’s Officer determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma and the manner of death to be homicide.
An obituary from the family said Passero was a "beloved son" and a loving brother and nephew.
Stevens has been held at the Hudson County Correctional Facility since his arrest and made his first appearance on the upgraded manslaughter charge Thursday, prosecutors said.
