HOBOKEN, NJ — Two holiday themed bar crawl in Hoboken on Saturday — one at 10 a.m. and one at 11 — drew throngs of millennials to the mile-square city, and police patrols were beefed up to prevent problems.

Partiers came from throughout the Tri-State area, with one group saying they rode for two hours on a packed NJ Transit train from the Jersey Shore to arrive.

Festive pajamas and profanity-laden puns were on display as bar patrons lined up to enjoy a "lit" event.

Last year, over SantaCon weekend, four people were arrested, including two for cocaine possession and one for jumping on the hood of a car — during what city officials dubbed a "relatively calm" event.

For this year, a Hoboken police spokesperson said, "Additional police have been assigned to work Saturday. There is a DWI enforcement planned and a zero-tolerance policy on all violations (including public urination, open container/public consumption, and disturbing the peace) with fines ranging from $250-$1,000."

Police Chief Steven Aguiar said, "Safety is the top priority of the city of Hoboken, the Public Safety Department, and the Police Department on Santa Con, and every day. Additional officers will be on duty on Saturday, to ensure the safety and security of all residents and participants, as well as properties." He encouraged participants to use mass transit, cabs, or rideshare services.

Businesses have said in the past that they count on such holiday events to earn money to keep them going through slow summers.

With balmy temperatures and plenty of sunshine, SantaCon appeared be getting back to "normal" in Hoboken. (But a flood watch has been issued for the end of the weekend; see more here: 'Strong Storm' With Up To 3 Inches Of Rain Coming To Hudson County.)
