3 Popular Hoboken Restaurants Have Closed, And All 3 Are Being Replaced
Three popular restaurants in Hoboken have closed recently: A pizza lab, a deli, and Myron Mixon Barbecue. But 3 will open in their place.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Three popular restaurants in Hoboken have closed recently, but three new eateries will arrive in their place.
Myron Mixon's Barbecue, which opened on the city's main drag in December 2021, said on social media in March that it was closed for work and would reopen. But instead, Saka Sushi & Hibachi restaurant placed signage there Wednesday afternoon. (See the photo and read more about it here).
Nicole Albano, a spokesperson for the Mixon chain, said Thursday, "While the neighborhood responded well to the concept, and business was steady, it ultimately came down to a difference of opinion among partners, which sometimes happens despite the business thriving. Myron would love to bring his BBQ back to the tristate area, and hopefully some day he will."

Two Others
Meanwhile, the once hotly-awaited Madison Pizza Lab, which opened on a stretch of Newark Street behind City Hall, has also closed.

The venue was run by David Carney, the manager of the popular Madison Street Bar and Grill uptown. Carney's inventive "pizza lab" opened in September 2022.
Carney said, "I had a lot of fun. It was a passion project. I’ll do it again in another location."
Hopping into the space will be Boomerang Bites, the Jersey City-based Australian bakery.
"In addition to our YUMMO bites we’ll be stocking even more Aussie baked goods as well as a whole assortment of products from home," the owner said on social media. "And of course we’ll have babka from the wonderful Babka Bailout too."
Finally, Pastrami House in Hoboken, the only restaurant in town serving Jewish deli-type offerings, has closed for good. The venue was so well anticipated that it had lines down the block when it opened in early January of 2020, two months before the pandemic lockdown.
The business at 832 Washington St. is being replaced by an Asian eatery, Purple Rice, whose owners are already moving in. Outside the location today, an owner said they are hoping to open within a month's time.

Besides those three eateries, five other restaurants and dessert shops have recently opened or are gearing up to open soon in the mile-square city.
