Social Media Threat To Hazlet Schools Was A 'Prank': Cops

Hazlet police determined Thursday that a social media post interpreted as a threat to the school district came as the result of a prank.

HAZLET, NJ - A social media post that surfaced this week - which was interpreted as a threat to the Hazlet school district - has since been deemed a “non-credible threat,” according to the Hazlet Township Police Department.

The online post in question surfaced between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning within the Hazlet community, according to a statement from Hazlet Township Public Schools.

The school administration was notified “immediately” and safety protocols - as well as a police investigation - were initiated within a matter of hours.

The parties involved were identified, visited and interviewed alongside their guardians, according to Hazlet police.

“It was verified that the posting has no basis in fact and was deemed a non-credible threat,” Hazlet police said. The police investigation later determined that the post was the result of a prank.

It was not immediately clear what the content of the post entailed.

“HTPD has verified that the posting has no basis in fact whatsoever and that all schools are safe,” the district wrote.
