PICS: Honoring Hopatcong Legends

The high school acknowledged the 2001 football state championship team before Friday's win over Boonton.

Remember 2001.

That was the mantra Friday night as Hopatcong High School honored its first football state championship team—the 2001 squad that beat Mahwah, 36-35, on a game-winning field goal before more than 5,000 fans.

All the heroes were there—from quarterback Jerry Venturino to wideout Steve Holick to kicker Dan McNamara, whose 35-yarder clinched it for the Chiefs, who also won a title in 2005.
