
Republican incumbents easily swept races in the 24th legislative district Tuesday night.
State Sen. Steve Oroho, 53, will return to his seat for a second term. Also returning are Assembly members Alison Littel McHose and Gary Chiusano, 60.
Oroho staved off a challenge from Democrat Edwin Selby. The Assembly incumbents saw opposition from more sides, challenged by Democrats Leslie Huhn, 47, and Jim Nye, 70, as well as the independent ticket of Mark D. Quick and Rose Ann Salantri.

Oroho has said property tax relief and job creation are the biggest issues facing Sussex County. Chiusano has said his biggest priorities are school funding, resisting tax increases and attracting businesses and jobs.

Selby had put the emphasis during the campaign on education (particulary tenure protection and the allocation of public funds), employment, and his plan to reinstate a tax increase on those making more than $400,000 a year. Huhn said she'd reinvest in an aging transportation instructuture, create jobs and support the support the 2008 School Funding Reform Act are the biggest issues facing Sussex County. Nye said he'd support small businesses, the tax increase on those making more than $400,000, and the education act.
