5 Things: Hopatcong Hosts Whippany Park

Chiefs' football team looks to improve to 3-1 against struggling Wildcats on Friday night.

Hopatcong will host its second home football game of the season Friday night as the Chiefs take on Whippany Park Regional High School at 7 p.m.

Here are five things you need to know about the game.

  1. You Need to Know Hopatcong's Rolling: The Chiefs , 21-3, in their season-opener. But then the squad , 28-0, at home. Not to worry. Gary Andolena's boys were ready last week, 34-6. Now they turn their vaunted running attack toward Whippany Park.
  2. You Need to Know Whippany Park Isn't: The Wildcats are 0-3. They've scored just seven points over the last two weeks after a 26-20 loss to Butler in their season-opener. Things aren't looking good for Whippany Park, which has been outscored 65-7 on the road this season.
  3. You Need to Know What Happened Last Year: Hopatcong hardly broke a sweat. The , 53-12, on the road to go 3-1. But the Hopatcong ended the year against a tough schedule and finished up 4-5.
  4. You Need to Know What Will Happen When Hopatcong Has the Ball: The Chiefs will run, and they'll run often. Austin Brown and Aric Webster will get the bulk of the carries. Johan Lara will see a ton of touches, too, whether they're in the backfield or from the arm of quarterback Ryan Clarke.
  5. You Need to Know What Will Happen When Hopatcong is on Defense: The Chiefs will swarm. They'll look to overwhelm the Wildcats with A.J. Bongiovanni and Chris Seely. But don't sleep on Brown or Chris Houterman, either.
