$50K Grant to Repair 4 Hopatcong Buildings

Councilman: 'It's energy savings.'

Hopatcong expects to soon upgrade a handful of borough buildings via an approximately $50,000 state grant.

The New Jersey Clean Energy Program's Direct Install grant would fund repairs, such as installing energy-efficient lights and more, to Hopatcong's three fire houses and the , Councilman Mike Francis said.

"It's energy savings," he said after Wednesday night's council meeting at the . "It reduces our carbon footprint. It's smart. And we get new stuff. We get air conditioning and furnaces and lights. And we don't pay for it."

Francis said he didn't know the exact total of the grant off his head, but that grant's paperwork was all but complete. He said a state assessor determined the amount of the grant after inspecting the buildings several months ago.

"Over time, we'll see a very big savings," Francis said, regarding the energy-efficient lighting to be installed.

Francis said the borough received a $106,000 Direct Install grant last year to make repairs to the Board of Health and Department of Public Works buildings.
