SPARTA, NJ — Without community leaders, Sparta wouldn’t hum along nearly as smoothly as it does. We’d miss their contributions in big and small ways.

What does this community leader do?

He manages a no-kill animal shelter that adopts out over 800 animals a year. Supplies food pantries and smaller shelters with supplies. Runs a low-cost vet program and trap and release for towns and private businesses.

Why do you believe the community leader should be recognized or honored?

He is constantly working with the low-income and needy in the county. He is caring and innovative in his ideas for community outreach. His heart for the vulnerable and needy goes beyond the abandoned animals to the whole of Sussex County.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the community hero?

Garret will do anything to keep people and their pets together.
