Baseball: Hopatcong Puts Homer in Homer Dome

Chiefs club three bombs, smash Wallkill Valley.

When Hopatcong's at the plate, nothing is safe behind the Homer Dome's fence.

The Chiefs blasted three homers in Wednesday's 16-9 victory over Wallkill Valley at home. Hunter Guard, Joey LoBue and Josh Bishop each went deep for Hopatcong (12-4-1).

Bishop club a pair of hits for the Chiefs, whose five-run second frame put things out of reach for the Rangers (6-14). Hopatcong led by as many as 10 runs.

Guard, a junior, went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs and two RBI. LoBue, a senior, drove in a pair of runs.

Wednesday's win came on the heels of Tuesday's dramatic, come-from-behind victory over Caldwell, 8-7. In that win, the Chiefs' three-run seventh pushed them ahead for good.

Wallkill Valley's Ian Endres was the squad's main bright spot Wednesday, going 3-for-4.

After making it 11-1 in the fourth, Wallkill Valley stormed back for five runs in the fifth. But the Chiefs responded, tacking on five runs of their own in the inning's bottom half.

Next Tuesday, Hopatcong takes on rival Lenape Valley at home. But before that it faces Mount Olive on the road on Monday.
