Boys Basketball: Hopatcong Continues Winning Ways

Chiefs outpace Newton, 60-47, despite sluggish start.

Hopatcong's boys basketball team had another strong showing Thursday night, beating Newton, 60-47, on the road.

Junior forward Hunter Guard's 17 points helped the Chiefs improved to 15-6. Senior guard Matt Tobin had 21 points, including nine free throws, in the victory. Jon Parker, a junior forward, had 11 points for Hopatcong.

Nate Samanns poured in a game-high 25 point for Newton, which fell to 7-14. Steven Kelly scored 10 points for the Braves, who finished the first quarter ahead, 13-10.

But Hopatcong's steady offense proved too much. The Chiefs took a two-point lead into halftime before pulling away with an 18-10 third quarter.
