Hopatcong's boys soccer team had a rough day against Dover, losing 7-0.
IN SHORT
The game was scoreless through the first 25 minutes of play with both team trading possession of the ball mainly in the center of the field. Dover had multiple scoring opportunities, but Chiefs goalie Chris Ives was flawless as a backstop. Dover’s first score came on a Hopatcong penalty and the Tigers were awarded a free kick from about 25 yards out. Dover’s Matias Cerisola hit a line drive just wide of the defensive wall and skipped the ball past the out stretched hands of goalie Chris Ives for a 1-0 lead. The game remained close until just under five minutes when Dover scored twice more before the half ended. Dover put the game way out of reach early in the second half, scoring three goals within 12 minutes.

THEY SAID IT
“We started out strong. We played well for the first 25 minutes but after they started scoring it went down-hill from there . I don’t know if it was fatigue or they just got down on themselves or what.” — Masterson
