Health Advisory Committee to be Named

Five residents to address borough health issues.

Yvonne Quinones Syto is expected to be the only former board of health member named to the borough's new health advisory committee when Mayor Sylvia Petillo announces its members at Wednesday's council meeting at the .

Aaron Siegel, Loretta Rankin, Fran Valarde and Henry Schmidt would round out the rest of the five-person group with Syto, who resigned from the board earlier in the year amid the health board's decision to . The board of health eventually .

Petillo has said the committee would be charged with with community outreach but with no governing powers. Hopatcong's board of health, which can make laws, is slated to become a council-run entity by year's end as council members fill vacated or expired seats.

Councilwoman Estelle Klein has been the lone vocal opposition to the committee on the council since it was introduced at a , where Petillo said the board of health wasn't interested in borough activism.

The advisory committee will implement wellness programs and other endeavors that could help the borough receive additional state funding, Petillo has said.
