Upon taking the gavel, Busche commented on the status of the Democratic Party in Sussex County.

“In the past several years, under the Chairmanship of Ed Selby, the party has moved forward in Sussex County," he said. "Membership has grown.   I see as the most striking and important achievement the fact that this party is right now running three qualified, attractive and energetic candidates for the New Jersey legislature. I can honestly say, and I am pleased to say, that this slate -- Ed Selby for Senate, Leslie Huhn and Jim Nye for Assembly -- are entitled to and have my full and unqualified support.  They are good, strong candidates who are running for exactly the right reasons. I am proud, we should all be proud, to have such a wonderful bunch going into the November election.”
