Free Hazardous Waste Disposal
Sussex County residents can dump materials for free on Nov. 5 in Lafayette.

Got hazardous waste?
Here's your chance to get rid of it—for free.
The Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority will host a hazardous waste disposal day on Nov. 5 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its location at 34 South Route 94 in Lafayette. "Do your part in helping to keep Sussex County clean!" SCUMA said in its flier. "Keep household hazardous materials out of the landfill."

Sussex County residents are allowed to bring up to 100 pounds of dry hazardous waste materials, 25 fluorescent bulbs and 10 gallons of liquid waste.
No paperwork will be included, and attendants will be on site, SCUMA said.

The authority said the following waste will be permitted: oil-based paints, stains, solvents, old gasoline, muriatic acid, photo chemicals, sulfuric acid, brake fluid, lubricants, printing ink, lead-based pain, paint thinner, rust remover, ammonia, lighter fluid, insecticides, paint stripper, varnish, turpentine, kerosene, pesticides, chlorine, mercury, pool chemicals.
Do not bring: latex paint, motor oil, pentachlorophensolene, asbestos, explosives, propane gas cylinders, silvex, medical waste, PCB or PCB materials, picric acid and batteries.
