The Hopatcong girls soccer team remains winless after two games, losing to Hackettstown, 5-0. The Tigers did all their scoring in the first seven minutes of the game.
IN SHORT
The Chiefs gave up five goals in the first seven minutes of the game, called a timeout, made some personnel and position changes and came back strong enough to shut down Hackettstown’s offense for the rest of the game. But the damage was done and the Chiefs came out on the short side of a 5-0 loss. They remain winless early in the season. The Chiefs could only get six shots on goal.
CHIEF OF THE GAME
Goalie Stephanie Van Beke was busy all day with the majority of the game played right in front of her. Van Beke had 24 saves, most of them where she had to throw her body at the ball despite the Hackettstown offense barreling down on her.

THEY SAID IT
“The first 10 minutes we were frazzled. We made some personnel changes, both subbing and changing positions and that helped control the pace a bit better for us.” — Coach Hilary Gorzelnik
