Hopatcong All-Star Baseball Plays Tough

But youth squad suffers first loss.

The following is from Hopatcong All-Star Baseball.

Hopatcong lost a tough one to Frankford-Branchville, 5-4, giving up the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning Monday night at Senior Field in Hopatcong.

Ben Carreno pitched six strong innings for Hopatcong, keeping the game close giving his team an opportunity to pull out a win before they fell one run short.

Hopatcong overcame a strong pitching performance by Frankford-Branchville and a 2 - 0 deficit, pulling ahead in the six inning with four runs to take a 4-2 lead. Three consecutive RBI singles by P.J. Rodick, Christian Ammiano and Jake Dorman gave Hopatcong the lead and they added a fourth run on an error.

Branchville-Frankford answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, tying the game.

Offensively, Hopatcong was lead by Ammiano who went 3-for-4 and Brennan Dickens, who was 2-for-3. 

"It was a great, well played baseball game by two good teams," coach Dave Ammiano said. "The boys showed their toughness never giving up and battling to the end."
