Hopatcong has qualified as a rural location with a population in need of a housing grant from the USDA Rural Development Grants program that will go to improve housing for low-income homeowners. This housing preservation grant targets low income households with health and safety hazards and home access house improvements for residents with disabilities.

Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) announced December 5th that Hopatcong Borough received a $89,837.54 grant from United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Office of Rural Development to repair and rehabilitate housing in the borough.

Hopatcong residents that appear to meet the criteria of this grant program can contact the office of Mayor Michael Francis for further details on eligibility.

Representative Sherrill stated at the local press conference -

“The USDA Rural Development Grant is an investment in our communities here in North Jersey Improvement projects for environmental remediation or disability access can be incredibly
expensive. This grant will bring much-needed federal dollars back to Sussex County to support low-income residents in making critical repairs to their homes. I will continue to work in Congress to ensure more families in New Jersey have access to safe and affordable housing."
