Hopatcong's GOP Primary a 4-Way Race

Two council members seek re-election while newcomers run on same ticket.

There will be a fight for Hopatcong's Republican primary election.

Councilman Richard Bunce and Councilwoman Marie Galate hope to retain their seats while newcomers Thomas Forbes and Mariano Gianni will also vie for the two open spots on June 5.

No Democrats filed for election. Independents have until the primary to file.

Each of the candidates for the three-year terms filed before Monday's 4 p.m. primary deadline.

The incumbents will run under similar slogans: Bunce, whose been on the council since 2003, under "Helping Hopatcong Move Foward"; Galate, whose been on the council since 2007, under "Keeping Hopatcong Moving Forward."

Meanwhile, Gianni and Forbes—the borough board of health's president and vice president, respectively—will run under the "Keep Hopatcong Honest" slogan.

John Young and Estelle Klein in Hopatcong and in November. Mayor Sylvia Petillo also ran without Republican opposition in 2011.
