Hopatcong Youth Wrestlers Battle, But Fall

Drop contest to one of area's best squads.

The following is from the Hopatcong Youth Wrestling program.

Hopatcong Youth Wrestling suffered its first loss of the season, falling to Hanover Park, 70-24, on Dec. 21.

Making his varsity debut, Conner Loven got the team going with a pin at 50 pounds. Frankie Mastroeni suffered a loss at 55 pounds to even the score 6-6. Jarrett Luciani got an impressive pin at 60 pound for the victory. Mike Mastroeni at 65 pound, Brandon Olmstead at 70 pounds and Mason Veron at 75 pounds all lost their matches as Hanover Park took a 24-12 lead.

Anthony Mastroeni continued his winning ways with a win via pin at 80 pounds. Raymond Smaha had a hard-fought decision win to put the score at 24-21.

The overall experience and talent of the Hanover Park team than took over with victories over Anthony Smaha at 90 pounds, Anthony Rodriguez at 95 pounds. Bart Yaros got the team’s final victory with a decision at 102 pounds.

Hopatcong forfieted 110 pounds and then Jake Wilkerson at 118 pounds, Scott Prior at 126 pounds, Brayan Rodriguez at 136 pounds and Dylan Fraizer at 146 pounds all lost tough matches. The final class at 165 pounds was forfeited to put the final score 70-24.

Hanover Park is the defending league champion, going 14-0 in 2010 and 59-3 the last 4 years.

Next match is against another good team—Long Valley on the road.
