Staten Island, NY - Five members of Flotilla 10-07 of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, based in Lake Hopatcong, NJ, participated in the dockside support at the US Coast Guard’s Station New York in Staten Island from Sept. 19-23. The Auxiliarists were supporting the active duty Coast Guard, by assuming the duties of fueling and servicing the Coast Guard vessels, during last week’s UN Generally Assembly.  The Coast Guard has been on duty around the clock securing the area around the United Nations buildings, located on the East River, during the Annual Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

By relieving the boat crews of those duties, it gave the Coast Guard men and women the opportunity to get some much needed rest between their security patrol missions. The Auxiliarists had received special training on how to perform their duties in a speedy manner in order to allow the patrol boats resume their duties in as short a turn around
time as possible.

TheAuxiliarists were led by their Flotilla Commander, Lorraine Cannata. Also assisting were Operations Officer, Larry Orlans, Training Officer, Antoinette Magliano and members, Rich Carlson, and Ted Tiejen.

Coast Guard Auxiliarists from all around the greater New York area were participating in this program for the second year, since it proved to be very successful when it was initiated last year. The Coast Guard Auxiliary acts as a force multiplier in situations like this, allowing the Coast Guard to concentrate on their critical duties.
