Macaluso Breaks School Sprint Record

The junior snaps a 16-year Hopatcong High School mark.

Make room for a new name in the girls track record books.

Junior sprinter Courtney Macaluso snapped the school's 100-meter dash record Monday, recording a 12.7. Danielle Stoveken set the old mark of 12.8 in 1996.

Macaluso enters Wednesday's dual meet against Newton—the Chiefs' last of the season—undefeated in the 100 and the 200-meter dash, despite missing one meet due to injury.

"She is our best sprinter, no doubt about it," girls head coach Peter Oesen said. "When put into the individual events, she competes at a high level.

"She's got a tremendous ability and, you know, it's not a surprise that she broke the record. She runs all winter long and goes to meets in the winter time even though the school does not have a winter track program. She does the prep work to get herself ready for the season and her results are a result of her winter-time training."
