Martinek's Last Rutgers Home-Opener Thursday Night

Hopatcong High School football legend will lineup as the Scarlet Knights' fullback tonight.

It's his first and his last.

Joe Martinek will line up as Rutgers' starting fullback for the first time when the Scarlet Knights host North Carolina Central at home at 7:30 p.m. But it'll also be the last Division I home-opener of the Hopatcong football legend's career.

Martinek, a senior, was moved to fullback in the spring when Rutgers hired former Pittsburgh assistant Frank Cignetti as offensive coordinator to revive the Scarlett Knight's anemic offense with a pro-style attack.

In August, Martinek said he was . Last year, Martinek gained just 314 yards while dealing with multiple injuries. In 2009, the state's all-time rushing leader gained almost 1,000 yards and scored nine touchdowns.
