Mayor: Ring Bells at 1 p.m. on 9/11

Petillo urges Hopatcong to participate in national moment of remembrance.

The U.S. Senate recently approved legislation asking Americans to honor the victims of 9/11 and their families for a moment of remembrance at 1 p.m. on Sunday—the 10th anniversary of the attacks.

Hopatcong Mayor Sylvia Petillo urged Hopatcong residents to join in, ringing bells and sirens for one minute.

"Go out and ring bells or hit your pots," she said. "Just ring that siren. Let everybody know we're remembering 9/11"

The moment of remembrance will occur at the same time nationwide: 1 p.m. East Coast; noon Central; 11 a.m. Mountain Zone; and 10 a.m. West Coast.

"As sirens and bells ring out, Americans are called on to stop all regular activity and observe a one-minute Moment of Remembrance for the victims of September 11th and their families," New Jersey Senator Frank R. Lautenberg said in a press release.
