In conjunction with Music
for All
(MFA) and The
Music Den
, the Roxbury HS Band Parents Association is proud to host the inaugural Metropolitan
Wind Band Invitational

(MWBI). This is the first major regional high school concert
band festival of its kind along the Eastern Seaboard! Only three locations in
the entire United States were selected to hold these Affiliate Regional
Festivals of the Music for All National Concert Band Festival. Roxbury was
selected based on the quality of its program and the incredible work its staff
and student musicians exhibit each and every day!!!!

This is not a competition, rather a valuable educational
experience for participating ensembles to further their musical development. This
celebration of outstanding music, which is open
to the public, will consist of performances by 13 accomplished
high school wind ensembles from throughout New Jersey, including the Roxbury
High School Honors Wind Symphony. In this first year, the event was by
invitation only to a select group of high school band programs which
demonstrated exceptional performance levels. In coming years, according to Mr.
Todd Nichols, Roxbury HS Band Director, the expectation is to open the Festival
to a wider range of ensembles while maintaining a high performance standard. Consistent
with MFA goals:

"The [MWBI] Festival provides a place for growth, cooperative
encouragement and mutual respect among music programs, students, parents,
boosters and administrators. Directors select their own programs; there is no
required repertoire. There are no ratings or rankings so directors and their
ensembles are free to stretch themselves, reach for new heights, and strive for
innovation, growth and excellence."

Each half-hour concert set will take place in the school Auditorium
with the first band set to perform at 11:00 AM. The event will be divided into
two parts, morning and afternoon sessions, with a short break in between. A
panel of nationally recognized evaluators will provide each group with a
constructive, objective critique on how to grow and further develop their
repertoire. Additionally, each ensemble will work with one of the evaluators in
a 45-minute clinic setting after their performance receiving one-on-one
professional advice and counsel to further improve their performance quality. Band
Directors will receive a video of their group's clinic sessions and performance.
As an integral part of their learning experience, bands are encouraged to stay
and enjoy the other performances after their designated time slot.

MFA will be presenting one Director Scholarship to a
participating director as well as Student Scholarships to attend the MFA
Summer Symposium
at Ball
State University. Exhibitor booths will be set up sponsored by The Music Den, Yamaha Corporation of America and Conn-Selmer.  As one of RHS Bands'
largest fundraisers of the year, refreshments will be available for purchase at
the venue. Proceeds will benefit all facets of the Roxbury High School
Instrumental Program.

SPECIAL PERFORMANCE

At 7:00 PM, the acclaimed Eastern Wind Symphony (EWS), led by Mr. Todd Nichols, Conductor/Artistic
Director and Mr. Adam Warshafsky, Assistant Conductor, will be headlining the
evening. EWS consists of professional musicians from the NJ, NY and PA area,
including music educators, freelance musicians as well as a wide range of other
vocations. Members of EWS are accomplished and talented musicians who volunteer
their time and enjoy performing the most highly regarded wind symphony
repertoire in this high-caliber ensemble.
